Hi everyone! Once my Odds and Ends blog on The Honolulu Advertiser website becomes inactive, I’ll start blogging here. I’ll continue with my theme of ODD and wacky stories from around the world.

    Gee, we got words in our vocabulary that are distinctly O&E, like Shaunanigans and Shaunaughtiness. I just looked at the the QB’s name and saw shaunag, and immediately thought shaunagging. Oh boy, I’m going to get kicked out of here one of these days. LOL

Just keep tapping everyone in front of you on their back and tell them, “Why is dis taking so long?” and give the biggest SMILE you can muster :-) .     Furloughs twice a month is gonna start next month for me. I think I gonna like it.

    M/Snow:

    We went through furlough days for the first six months of ’09. We had two options:
    1) straight furlough, one day off every two weeks and work could not contact you except for emergencies…if they did, you were paid. You could also file for unemployment for that one day.

    2) voluntary furlough, same as #1 but you came in and worked on your furlough day and not be paid for it. Many of us chose this. When it comes time to find staff to RIF, this was a plus point for you.

    I still had my every other flex Friday off and a three day weekend so it didn’t matter to me.

But when push comes to shove and you are dead even with someone, that plus may be the deal maker for you. Its all water under the bridge now, they really can’t cut anymore staff but the new fiscal year starts next month….we’ll see.

    M, MLC moment, but remember back when the SB was the best paper in town (it was in my mind, at least). then, the HA took over the top dog spot, but i was loyal to the SB as long as I could be. the reason that I became a proponent of the HA over the SB (although I still read both when i was home, the HA’s content was so much better)was the website. being up here, the only access i had, most of the time, was the online editions, and the SB format was just plain painful to wade through. Now, the SA’s format is a mirror of the old SB site and it’s still like pulling teeth.

    Guud Morning Hive!

    This won’t feel like a “long weekend” for me cuz we’re working on Monday. The building is open… we work. Seattle Gail (from MLC) is in town, we’re going to see some friends pay music Fri nite. Sat is my usual HB Lounge gig but my boss is having his housewarming that same evening so I gotta split the night.

    Sun is my friend’s 60th Bday party… live music and all!

    Somewhere in between all that is laundry, housecleaning, and hiking.

    sally: no need to worry about me. I ain’t throwing rocks.

    Although I’m bothered by it BEEing 64 degrees, I’m not bothered in the way you think. Most folks would think I’d BEE bothered because it is so cool. In fact, I’m bothered because it is not cool enough. It’s been non-stop rain showers, the whole day. On the way home from the grocery store, I put on my jacket before riding my bicycle the 6 miles home. Well, given the temperature, I was dry from the rain, but soaked from perspiration. At least if it were in the 40′s, I’d be able to ride and not break a sweat.

    No need scan, just upload a photo from your computer. I have a file on desktop that I throw pics into that I want to upload. Delete as I go along. Keep some others. The keepers are in iPhoto.

    the problem w/OR is the weather, no doubt. I was up there last week and it was gorgeous. not too hot…overcast a little, even, but not rainy and not cold. maybe mid to high 70′s. just an almost perfect Oregon summer day. unfortunately, those days are few and far between. seems like it’s either 60′s and rainy or 105 and way too hot.

    HNL2LAS: I remembered the Triad stuff from the blogs. As to July, I don’t know what it is with me, but there are a huge number of connections with me and with this month. I can’t count the number of coworkers, acquaintances, friends, and family members that have a birthday in July. At one job I worked at, nearly half the people on the shift had a birthday in July. There are also those that have a wedding anniversary in July.

    It’s an interesting month for me.

    Good afternoon QB and Hive. Another day of sweatin’ it. I’d be glad if we could turn the clock back to June, when the daytime high temperature was in the low 60′s. These past few days, the overnight low has been higher than that. The daytime high makes me feel like I’m living in Vegas.

    I have a SPF 50 hat and visor (umbrella too!) I got from a trade show. I wear the hat at the beach and the visor when hiking or walking. Haven’t used the umbrella yet, probably when we go to Makapuu Lighthouse hike.

    Yah, I look like a dork but I do what I can to save my skin! I got enough sun damage resulting from being a beach bunny in the 70′s.
