Sickeningly sweet…

Today, Aug. 31, 2010, would mark my 10th anniversary if I were still working at The Honolulu Advertiser. It’s hard to imagine that a decade ago I was just starting my first full-time job at the state’s largest daily newspaper.

A lot has happened over the 10 years, including the ridiculous amount of junk I consumed while working at my desk. I’m not talking about files and office odds and ends. I’m talking about junk food. From soda to chips, plate lunches and high-calorie desserts, I ate it all. I cringe to think about the pounds I put on and curse myself for not exercising more restraint when it comes to tempting foods.

But check out 20 of the worst drinks in America, according to a recent e-mail forward I received. Maybe it was a good thing I enjoyed all these yummy foods for the same amount of calories as these fattening drinks!

Any of your favorites make this list? Sometimes I prefer not to know the high calories or sugar counts in these cold treats. Ignorance is bliss. But I guess once the pants starts to get too tight, that might be a sign to cut back…

    The Starbuck’s Vanilla Frappuccino is the only one of those I’ve had. It really is very sweet.

    Wow! Now I’m glad my main beverage of choice is water. I do have a beer or two occaisionally and maybe a glass of wine but those drinks are loaded with sugars and calories!

    Morning! I never saw Gatorade as an energy drink as well… For me, it’s Red Bull! I just drank my last one from my Costco bulk purchase yesterday. :(

    I guess when I’m golfing sometimes I need that burst of energy and the sugar in the gatorade provides me with that boost. It’s probably not an “energy” drink but there’s no way I can drink Red Bull or those other energy drinks. The caffeine content in those would send my heart into Premature Ventricular Contractions! Yikes!

    Must have at least one 20oz cup to get my day moving. No, not that kind of “moving”.

    I rather brew my own at home than buy a cup somewhere. Although I agree with Ankelbyter, Dunkin Donuts is one of the best coffees.

    good afternoon HIVE! i’ve never had any of those high-sugar drinks! not that i haven’t had drinks that were high in sugar… some are so super sweet that i can’t drink them!

    favorite cold drink – water!
    best fast-food ice cream treat – mcdonald’s soft serve cone
    favorite energy drink – none, i can’t tolerate too much caffeine and whatnot!
    favorite coffee type and place – (sorry, ankles… lol) starbuck’s caramel frappucino or skinny caramel macchiato. i think i need one tonight!

    Best fast-food ice cream treat: Rainbow Drive In’s Slush Float

    Favorite energy drink: Never had one. But I do drink Zip Fizz while working out. It’ the one sold at Costco and Sam’s… has zero sugar but still replenishes what your body needs.

    Favorite coffee type and place: I cold brew at home with a Toddy Coffee System. I don’t know how to order from coffee houses. I do like the coffees from 7-11. Mix up my own when I want.

    Favorite cold drink: fruit punch or juice, recently more flavored water, haha which doesn’t look so good now after reading the above! ‘n Sweet tea!!

    Best fast-food ice cream treat:slush float/creamsicle (Sonic) or hot fudge sundae from McD’s

    Favorite energy drink: Monster… or red bull, uhhh w/vodka.. BAHAHHA!

    Favorite coffee type and place: Don’t like coffee, but Starbucks, cuz it happens to be everywhere, for Chai or hot chocolate. Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf is good too.

    Yikes – 240 g of sugar? Might as well just open the sugar dispenser and pour it directly into your mouth!

    •Best fast-food ice cream treat: I can’t handle ‘em any more, but used to be Kidd Valley peanut butter shakes. Yum. Or Butterfinger blizzards from Dairy Queen.

    3. Red Bull (Though I haven’t had one in months) :P
    4. Starbucks Blended Mocha Frappuccino

    Boy eating or drinking some of those things, I would rather eat like 1/2 to 1/3 of the equivalent dessert instead. :P

    I really like this organic ground coffee I bought from Costco. They either discontinued it, or something. I have not been able to find it lately. My current supply will run out by the end of next week. yikes.

    •Favorite cold drink – I love me some cold beer. But, since we’re talking “sweet”, I’d have to say a root beer float made with A&W root beer and Breyer’s Natural Vanilla ice cream.
    •Best fast-food ice cream treat – Lately, I’ve been craving guri guri. And since there’s no Tasaka on Oahu, I have to settle for Samurai. Still ono though.
    •Favorite energy drink – Not really into energy drinks. Does Matcha Green Tea Blast from Jamba count?
    •Favorite coffee type and place – Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. I usually get some kind of latte – vanilla, mocha or whatever. If I make my own, I like Lion coffee.
