Before the big day…

Tomorrow is a big day for me. I’m starting a new job!

I’ll be an account executive at Communications Pacific in Downtown Honolulu. CommPac is one of Hawaii’s largest PR firms and I’m excited to see what the job holds. This job will be only my second full-time job I’ve ever had since graduating from college 10 years ago.

And like the day before a new school year, I’m a bit nervous. Working at one company for a decade put me in a very comfortable position. Now it’s all about starting all over to build relationships and my work credibility.

Got any advice for new-job jitters? Thanks in advance!

    Oh yeah, if you’re still awake…GO TO SLEEP. The last thing you want to do is walk in there tired. Get a good night’s sleep, and show up early.

    Congratulations Shauna! Yah, what they said up above. Assuming you already know to BEE pleasant, willing to learn, excited….

    BEE observant! You can tell pretty quick within the first few days what the pecking order is and how it gets that way. You can tell where you fit in and where you can make the space to fit in. I’m not talking cut-throat tactics, I’m talking confidence.

    BEE a sponge! Soak up the information, including office etiquette as well as job expectations and duties.

    My first day went well. Mostly procedural stuff but I got my own office! Penthouse view, too! And one of you awesome readers sent me a GORGEOUS vase of flowers!! WOW! :D Plus I got treated to lunch today. BEE-BEE-Q chicken!

    Congrats on your new job. I remember when I was younger taking a whole new path as far as my career was concerned. I can’t imagine starting over now at my age. I’ve been with this hospital now for over 23 years.

    QB: Are you serious? :shock: You really had to walk down 22 flights? :shock: What crazy fool thought that one up? I can understand a fire drill, but that’s taking it to an extreme. Couldn’t they have setup a staging area maybe a flight or two down, and just verify that everyone responded?

    For some folks, 22 flights won’t be a drill, it will turn into the real thing, with a real call to the fire dept. to help out some of them. Bring oxygen tanks, some of them are gonna need it. :roll:
