Sickeningly sweet…

Today, Aug. 31, 2010, would mark my 10th anniversary if I were still working at The Honolulu Advertiser. It’s hard to imagine that a decade ago I was just starting my first full-time job at the state’s largest daily newspaper.

A lot has happened over the 10 years, including the ridiculous amount of junk I consumed while working at my desk. I’m not talking about files and office odds and ends. I’m talking about junk food. From soda to chips, plate lunches and high-calorie desserts, I ate it all. I cringe to think about the pounds I put on and curse myself for not exercising more restraint when it comes to tempting foods.

But check out 20 of the worst drinks in America, according to a recent e-mail forward I received. Maybe it was a good thing I enjoyed all these yummy foods for the same amount of calories as these fattening drinks!

Any of your favorites make this list? Sometimes I prefer not to know the high calories or sugar counts in these cold treats. Ignorance is bliss. But I guess once the pants starts to get too tight, that might be a sign to cut back…

Before the big day…

Tomorrow is a big day for me. I’m starting a new job!

I’ll be an account executive at Communications Pacific in Downtown Honolulu. CommPac is one of Hawaii’s largest PR firms and I’m excited to see what the job holds. This job will be only my second full-time job I’ve ever had since graduating from college 10 years ago.

And like the day before a new school year, I’m a bit nervous. Working at one company for a decade put me in a very comfortable position. Now it’s all about starting all over to build relationships and my work credibility.
